Welcome

Supporting each other in learning and research

SCTE’s ethos is the education and implementation of the concept ‘Movement is Medicine’.

Our values and beliefs are:

That everyone no matter their financial or social circumstances, should be given the opportunity to access support. To engage with physical activity that in turn will improve their quality of life, wellbeing, and encourage greater social and community engagement, following diagnosis and treatment of a life changing condition.
All our interventions are provided free of charge and open to everyone whether their diagnosis was 20 years, or just 6 weeks, ago. Health Care Professionals (HCPs) can refer directly to us via our contact page  and by telephone on 0300 365 9791, or individuals can self-refer.

Programmes are delivered in a relaxed and friendly setting, bridging the gap between clinical and community. This provides a safe environment whereby individuals who have similar experiences can come together, build friendships and a support network in a locality.

Our programmes are individually and specially designed to meet the needs of the condition. Our holistic approach is centred on the individual not the collective. In the design phase we collaborate with specialist nurses, psychologists, general practitioners, relevant charitable organisations and support groups. Each new programme is piloted for participant feedback before going live.

All participants are seen on a one to one basis prior to commencing their programme. Through relevant questionnaires we obtain baseline information including current health, physical activity, confidence, and self-esteem markers. All programmes also include questionnaires on specific condition related outcomes. These questionnaires are revisited post programme to record progression and discussed with each participant. Results are also used for beneficiary outcome reports for funders and to demonstrate improvement impact supporting future funding applications

Delivery:

Our methodology is that through our interventions participants ‘strive to thrive’. All our programmes provide the participant with a clear understanding of the importance of being physically active generally and relevant to their condition, their experiences in its beneficial outcomes supports them in self-decision making and sustainable strategy implementation for condition management long term.  This monitored at 6 and 12 months.

As a charity we sincerely believe that the sharing of knowledge and experiences of working in the field of long-term condition management is very important. We welcome the opportunity to encourage this practice and if you would like to share your thoughts, reading matter, or take part in our blog provision please do not hesitate to contact Julie on admin@scte-activities.org.uk
